Daily Mail:

"GOD Save The Queen is the Royal anthem and thus the British Anthem by extension, by virtue of the Queen being the unifying force of the UK. Just as Wales and Scotland have anthems, surely England should be allowed one too. Thus we could enjoy both the unity of Britain and the diversity of the lands that make it up."
D.J.Tyrer

dooyoo:

"The Scots and Welsh are allowed to celebrate their cultures with two beautiful anthems, so why not England. England should be given an anthem to celebrate the identity that is Englishness. Shouldn't England have an anthem to be played at Football matches and other sporting events, rather than the British anthem?"
K Fingleton

The UK Student Forum:

"I'm sorry but it's about time our 'God Save the Queen ' was given a backseat. We need a better anthem, personally I prefer 'Jerusalem' but that is an England only song so can't replace the national anthem. For the national anthem I would use 'Rule Britannia'. Anything beats our drab boring anthem which nobody actually means when they sing"
Adam

The Daily Telegraph:

"SIR - For the sake of all that is right, let England have its own anthem. I am fed up with hearing Scottish and Welsh anthems at Rugby World Cup matches. England persists with the British one. While we are at it, let England also have its own parliament."
Dale Hemming-Tayler

The Daily Telegraph:

"SIR - I am delighted to inform Dale Hemming-Tayler that there is a new anthem for England. It has been written by Mike Alexander in order to replace the national anthem on special occasions.
It has been sent to the Rugby Football Union, and we are waiting to hear if it will adopt it.
There has been one performance, at the Goodwood Revival meeting, and it left everyone, including the Earl of March, dewy-eyed.
The British national anthem has the same tune as that of Leichtenstein, so when the two countries played one another at football, the supporters did not know which one to boo."
Dave Dennison

"I have been a rugby fan for many years and it is an on-going disappointment that England has never had its own anthem, unlike the Scots, the Welsh and the Irish. This is particularly relevant to Rubgy followers. I recently heard of this Anthem for England that has been getting some good press, well, its about time us Englanders adopted it as our first anthem!"
Nigel Dickens

"I recently attended the Goodwood revival motor meeting and heard for the first time a new English Anthem that received a standing ovation from the enthusiastic audience. It was brilliant, where have they been hiding this and why hasn't it been adopted by one of the sports bodies. It is ludicrous that we stole the Liechtenstein National Anthem and we don't have our own."
Graham Cole
